I listen to possible voice over talent every day who want to jump into this business with both feet. They figure, “I can read and I can talk so I can do this.” My guidance? Get some training and learn how to do this properly. Voice over work isn’t simply reading words from a paper. It’s communicating concepts from a client to a listening audience. This needs abilities at script analysis– the capability to check out the copy to discover what the writer is trying to say and the skill and craft to then convey those concepts with your voice.
As voice over experts, we actually need to make sure we make a research study out of marketing. So you need to be able to develop the performance the client needs while making it sound natural and like your own ideas and expression. You don’t desire to try to learn this on the fly. You might burn some crucial bridges while doing so. Take some voice over classes or get some coaching so you understand what is anticipated of you. Then jump in and earn while you discover.
But what if you wished to do voice overs for a living, or perhaps part time? State you harboured a dream to narrate children’s stories, do animation and computer game voices, or present your favourite TV programs – where in the world would you start? There is no profession course here, no academic courses at colleges or university; even a drama syllabus might not cover such a niche interest.
COUNTRY folk, your most significant obstacle now is to get clients. Focus on getting your website seen (pay-per-click with Google and Yahoo) and sending your link to all the local business in your town. They’ll be delighted to know they don’t need to go far to get an expert voice over for their commercial or in-house narrative.
So once again, I’m not stating that you should not make your own recordings, I’m simply saying find out where your time is best fit to GROW your company and not just work in it. Hiring a voice over artist to help you produce your items will get you that highly polished edge that will make you stand apart from your rivals.
